Environment, Food & Beyond

Our BI-SPR techniques are useful for a variety of applications:

  • Trace metal analysis (e.g., Pb2+ in drinking water)
A great variety of toxic chemicals are released into the environment due to reasons such as domestic and industrial waste, the use of drugs and pesticides, and the development of biological weaponry. Unfortunately, these chemicals are often incorporated into our daily lives, and can pose as a significant health hazard. SPR biosensors have been shown to have potential for environmental applications, and recent studies have been reported to detect trace levels of heavy metals and other environmental contaminants. Here at BI, our SPR instruments can help you monitor these factors to improve the safety of drinking water and much more.
  • Analyzing nutritious ingredients and screening hazardous residues (e.g., amines in degraded foods)
SPR systems are being developed for the detection of various analytes in food-related fields to evaluate whether consumer-level food products have the proper levels of quality and safety to be distributed to the general public. BI’s SPR instruments can help you analyze nutritious ingredients and screen residues in foods to determine the hygienic condition and purity of a variety of food products.
  • Detection of toxic molecules
The use of fossil fuels has raised growing environmental concerns about air quality and toxic molecules in the air we breathe. BI’s SPR instruments are sensitive enough to detect vapor interactions with various monolayers of molecular receptors. This paves the way for a significant step forward in monitoring environmental safety.
  • Development of new SPR techniques
The versatility of BI’s SPR instruments open up endless possibilities for research. Our high-sensitivity and flexible designs allow for the continued development of high-performance and coupled SPR techniques, adaptable for a variety of broader applications.
